Phony delivery drivers were teen home invaders
Two Teens Busted After Fake Delivery Scheme Turns Into Scottsdale Home Invasion
If you live in the Valley and have gotten used to random Amazon and DoorDash drivers showing up at your door, this story might make you think twice before answering.
Scottsdale police arrested two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, after the pair allegedly posed as delivery service employees to force their way into a home near 96th Street and Sweetwater Avenue on Saturday morning, January 31.
According to police, officers responded around 10:44 a.m. to a reported home invasion in progress in the 9800 block of Windrose Drive. When they reached the front door, they saw a woman screaming inside and one of the teenage suspects physically struggling with an adult male resident.
Officers forced their way in, but the two suspects bolted out the back of the house, jumped into a vehicle, and took off. The getaway didn't last long. A brief pursuit ended when the teens hit a dead end at a nearby strip mall, where officers took them into custody without incident.
Three people were inside the home at the time. Police say the suspects restrained two victims while a third managed to hide elsewhere in the residence. Evidence was recovered both at the home and inside the suspects' vehicle.
The teens now face a stack of serious felony charges including kidnapping, three counts of aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, criminal impersonation, disorderly conduct, and felony flight.
One neighbor summed up what many in these quiet Scottsdale neighborhoods are thinking, calling the incident terrifying and something you never expect to happen on your own street.
Police say there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the community. Identities of the juveniles have not been released due to their age. The investigation remains active.
