Family ArtsFest moves to Scottsdale Civic Center

Scottsdale Family ArtsFest Gets a New Home Downtown

If you've been looking for a reason to get the kids off their screens and into something creative, mark your calendar. Scottsdale Family ArtsFest returns for its fourth year on March 6 and 7, and this time the free festival is moving to a bigger stage at Scottsdale Civic Center.

After three successful years at ASU SkySong in south Scottsdale, ArtsFest is setting up shop right in the heart of downtown. The move to Civic Center means more space, easier access, and a chance to enjoy one of the Valley's most walkable neighborhoods while you're at it.

The festival is a collaboration between Scottsdale Arts, Scottsdale Unified School District, the City of Scottsdale, and Scottsdale Community Partners. It showcases the artistic talents of more than 1,000 SUSD students from elementary through high school, with exhibitions spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. These kids bring serious talent, and the displays are always a highlight.

Live performances from SUSD choirs, bands, theater groups, and orchestras will take over the Civic Center's 360 Stage throughout the weekend. Arizona Opera is also dropping in with a special family-friendly show that promises to be a treat for all ages.

Interactive art workshops let everyone from toddlers to grandparents get their hands dirty with guided creative projects. City departments are joining the fun too. Parks and Recreation will have games, Solid Waste brings environmental education activities, and Library Services will champion literacy initiatives.

The annual Alli Ortega Empty Bowls Fundraiser returns as well, with handcrafted bowls made by students and community members available for purchase. Proceeds support Scottsdale Community Partners programs including the Vista del Camino Food Bank.

Admission is completely free. For details, visit ScottsdaleArts.org.
