$47 million makeover coming to Old Town
If you've wandered through Old Town Scottsdale lately and noticed smoother streets or freshly painted parking garages, there's a good reason. The city has committed $47 million to transform one of the Valley's most beloved destinations, and residents are already seeing the results.
The investment targets everything from crumbling asphalt to aging parking structures. Two major garage projects are underway, with the Brown Avenue parking structure and Entertainment District garage each receiving significant upgrades. Main Street from 69th Street to Scottsdale Road is getting enhanced sidewalks, landscaping, and lighting to improve walkability.
The city completed an impressive fall paving season that resurfaced nearly 368,000 square yards of Old Town streets, parking lots, and alleys. That $7 million effort was part of a larger $18.5 million citywide pavement improvement program.
Beyond infrastructure, Scottsdale created a new Old Town Specialist position to serve as a direct liaison between city hall and local merchants. This dedicated staff member helps coordinate construction communications, event planning, and maintenance schedules with business owners.
The timing couldn't be better. Scottsdale celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2026 while the nation marks 250 years of independence. Private investment is following the city's lead, with new boutique hotels like Remi Scottsdale opening their doors and anticipated restaurant ventures from established local restaurateurs joining the scene.
The revitalization kicked off with a $2 million cleanup initiative targeting high-traffic areas including the Entertainment District, 5th Avenue Shopping District, and Stetson Avenue. Fresh paint, new signage, and upgraded amenities are appearing throughout the district.
For Valley residents who treasure Old Town's blend of Western heritage and contemporary culture, this investment ensures the area remains a world-class destination for decades to come.
